Group A
Russia – The hosts, so they didn’t need to qualify for the tournament. The real question is would they have qualified if they were not hosting the World Cup? They are heavily favoured to quailfy for the next round at 3/10.
Saudi Arabia – The minnows of what is a group of death for mediocre sides, so they’re a tiny fish in a small fishes pond. Don’t expect them to qualify or pick up a result. Odds on Saudi qualifying are a whopping 13/2.
Egypt – Arguably one of the best teams in Africa and with several high profile players they have what it takes to make it into the next round. You can back them at 11/10.
Uruguay – The group favourite and rightly so. The South Americans should cruise this group and will have been very happy with the kind draw. They’re 1/4 to progress.

It’s hard to look past Russia and Uruguay but the Russians haven’t been at their best which puts them on level ground with Egypt, even with the home advantage. Problem is there is not much value backing them to qualify at 11/10. Russia and Uruguay to make it through with Egypt our outside fancy.
Group B
Portugal – Ah the bridesmaids of the Iberian peninsula. Portugal are a solid and experienced side that are defensively minded. They won’t be too happy having to battle with Spain but should have no problems going through. Back them at 1/10
Spain – Spain are a side in decline, well, kinda. They haven’t been at their best in years but are formidable opponents never the less. They’ll have no problem qualifying here, the only question is will they top the group? 1/10 says they do.
Morocco – The African side are very unlucky to have been put in this group, they’ll have no problems dealing with Iran but have no hope against the Iberian sides. They’re 9/2 to qualify
Iran – The good news for Iran is that home is a quick flight from Russia. The bad news, well everything else. They should finish bottom of the group and are 5/1(!) to somehow qualify.

Spain and Portugal to qualify, no brainer but no value.
Group C
France – France rejoice! Once again they’ve been given an easy draw against sides that left it very late to qualify. The French will top this group at a canter with their main threat being the Danes. They’re a short 5/100 to qualify.
Australia – The Aussies are almost a good side to watch at the World Cup, hopefully we get more of the same from them this year. They might cause an upset or two but won’t make it out the group. They’re 3/1 to pull off the unlikely.
Peru – The South Americans will be reasonably happy with the draw as it could have been a lot worse for them. They strong outsiders and could edge Denmark but we’ll have to wait and see. They’re 15/10 to make it through.
Denmark – A step up from Peru but not as good as France. They should have no issue making it through if their strikers can bag them goals, if not then expect a few 0-0 scorelines. The 5/10 on them is reasonably priced.

France and Denmark to qualify IF Denmark get a result against Peru. If Peru can upset the cart (which they can) then it’ll be them and France. This is going to be an interesting group and a few bob on Peru is in order.
Group D
Argentina – Oh my, I can imagine the streets of Buenos Ares having one hellva party after the draw was made. This group is tailored to Argentina and there is zero opposition for the top spot. The odds are incredibly short on them to qualify at 15/100
Iceland – They’ll be happy to be attending, perhaps they’ll pull an upset over Nigeria but don’t count on them making it through. Even with odds of 5/2 it’s not an attractive bet.
Croatia – A side that got hit by the mediocre stick, they’ll grind out a win against the minnows which will be enough to see them through. The 5/10 on offer is a decent price.
Nigeria – Nigeria are Africa’s only hope when it comes to a side in the next round. They’ve got the quality to upset Croatia and the 11/5 is not too bad.

Argentina to ace the group with Croatia and Nigeria battling it out for the second spot. We give Croatia the edge but there is value on Nigeria.
Group E
Brazil – The name alone sends shivers down any international side! However the Samba Boys are not as good as they used to be and will want to make up for a disappointing 2014 World Cup. They’re in a deceptive group and the 1/33 on offer is crazy. They could be in for a major upset.
Switzerland – A very underrated side that often flies under the radar at big tournaments. I don’t want to call them dark horses but they certainly have the potential to pull off a result against Brazil. The 19/20 on offer to qualify is a cracking price.
Costa Rica – Don’t underestimate this team. They finished behind Mexico in qualifying edging out the likes of the USA and Honduras. This is their 5th World Cup and they made it to the quarters last time out. At 3/1 they’re cracking value to qualify.
Serbia – The Serbs are in, our opinion, the weakest side in the group. Now they’re not bad by any means and have a good chance of qualifying but we don’t see them being about to stifle Brazil’s attack or break down the Swiss defense. The 21/20 is not attractive at all.

This is not the official group of death but in our opinion it should be. The chances of Brazil not getting out his one are high and DO NOT get involved on them at 1/33. There is much better value backing the likes of Switzerland to qualify.
Group F
Germany – The World Cup holders find themselves in a group of death, with them being the death bringers. While a tough group the Germans should come out on top and 1/12 means we’ll be keeping our kitty closed for them.
Mexico – Arguably the second best side in the group but they’ll have a tough time against the likes of Sweden and even South Korea. It won’t be easy but the Mexicans should finish up in second, you can get 23/20 on them to qualify.
Sweden – A side that has always been tough to beat. They’re missing a few key players and aren’t as threatening as in the past but like most Scandinavian sides they are solid. They’re got the potential to go through if they can get a result against Mexico. However 27/20 is a little short for us.
South Korea – Every group of death has it’s weakest link and the South Koreans are no exception. They’ve no chance of qualifying and the 11/5 on offer is not even worth batting an eyelid at.

Germany to top the group followed by Mexico. Sweden have an outside shot but they’ll have to bring their A game. The battle for second place in the group of death should be very interesting.
Group G
Belgium – They won’t be too chuffed to be in a group with England but should have no difficulty making it to the next round in what is a very easy group. They’re slight group favourites at 1/7
Panama – It’s a long flight from Panama to Russia and with all due respect they likely have their tickets home booked and stamped for right after their final match. The 15/2 gives them more chance than we do.
Tunisia – They might be eyeing an upset here but they’ll find it tough going against two football powerhouses. They’ll likely finish 3rd on 3 points.
England – While the English side can be relied on to implode in big tournaments it usually happens in the knockout stage. They’ll have no problem qualifying and their game with Belgium should decide the group winner. The 3/20 on offer is fair.

A very easy group for Belgium and England. There really shouldn’t be any upsets here and the highlight will be the two heavyweights duking it out. Back England and Belgium to qualify.
Group H
Poland – The Poles are much like Scandinavian sides in their play style but have moved away from that in recent years. They have caused many an upset in the past and the 3/5 on them to qualify looks very tasty. Their main trouble will be the Colombians.
Senegal – Outside of Nigeria the Senegalese are Africa’s best shot of a side in the next round. Senegal are in our opinion the second best side in the group and the 27/20 on offer to qualify is very attractive.
Colombia – The group favourites. The South Americans must not rest on their laurels are they could easily lose to any side in this group. It won’t be easy for them and they might be worth opposing as the 3/10 on offer is very short.
Japan – Arguably the best Asian side the Japanese have seen better days. They’ll be happy with the draw though as they can beat any of the team around them if they put in a performance. They have an outside chance of qualifying at 37/20 but we don’t think they have what it takes.

Colombia seems like the obvious choice here but we fancy an upset and are hoping to see Poland and Senegal go through. It’s going to be a very interesting group to watch and there is lots of value to be had backing outsiders.
