What Is Lightning Roulette?
When it comes to product variety and superb gameplay, Evolution is the undisputed king of Live Casino Games. Award-winning Lightning Roulette is the perfect showcase of Evolution’s pioneering software and a popular choice for casino players who want to bet on live action.
So, what’s it like? Take standard roulette and add bigger cash prizes and imagine the game is hosted live in-studio by charming presenters with a great sense of humour. The only downside to getting started is that once you’ve played Lightning Roulette, you’ll never bother with the traditional game again.
How Does Lightning Roulette Work?
For the most part, Lightning Roulette follows all the same rules as European Roulette. However, in each round, before the roulette wheel is spun, between 1 and 5 Lucky Numbers appear. Each of these numbers is lightning-struck with multipliers between 50x and 500x.
The game then carries on like a standard game of roulette—you place bets on individual numbers, red/black, odd/even, etc. If the ball lands on a number which is struck by lightning (multiplied) and you place a bet on that same number, you get paid out anywhere between 50/1 and 500/1! But don’t worry, if you win a bet on a number that isn’t struck by lightning you still get paid out—just at smaller odds of 30/1. All other bets pay the same as European Roulette.
Is Lightning Roulette Better than Standard Roulette?
Yes, we think so because there are more ways to win big! You can make all the same bets you would in a normal game of roulette, plus get the opportunity to multiply your winnings between 50x to 500x. The only downside is that the odds you get for winning bets on non-multiplied numbers are reduced from 35/1 to 30/1. But that’s a small sacrifice to make for the potential to win 500x your stake if you hit a lucky number!
Types of Roulette Bets on Lightning Roulette
For those of you not familiar with the rules of Roulette, let’s take you through the various types of bets available in the game. Because the rules of Lightning Roulette and European Roulette are almost identical, once you know the standard bet types and how multipliers work, you’re all set!
- Straight (1 number): 30/1 (pays 30x plus your stake)
- Red/Black (18 numbers): 1/1 (pays 1x plus your stake)
- Odd/Even (18 numbers): 1/1 (pays 1x plus your stake)
- High/Low (1-18 or 19-36): 1/1 (pays 1x plus your stake)
- Columns (12 numbers): 2/1 (pays 2x plus your stake)
- Dozens (12 numbers): 2/1 (pays 2x plus your stake)
Lightning Roulette Rules
The rules for Lightning Roulette are fairly similar to European roulette. Players can place bets on individual numbers, groups of numbers and colours. But in Lightning Roulette, once bets are closed, the dealer pulls a lever to reveal 1-5 lucky numbers that each become multipliers of between 50x and 500x.
If you win a bet on any of these lucky numbers, the relevant multiplier is applied to your win! But don’t worry, if you win a bet on a number that isn’t struck by lightning you still get paid out—just at smaller odds. However, the payout in Lightning Roulette for all other winning bets on red/black, high/low, odd/even, etc. remains the same.

What To Expect When Playing Lightning Roulette (Walkthrough)
- Once the game screen has loaded, wait until the current round is over.
- A digital roulette table pops up from the bottom of your screen. The dealer then gives you about 20 seconds to place your bets for the next round.
- The dealer indicates that betting is closed and pulls a handle to reveal 1-5 lucky numbers on the digital screen behind him. Each number is allocated a multiplier between 50x and 500x.
- The dealer then releases the roulette ball and the camera angle switches to an overhead view of the roulette wheel.
- Once the ball stops, the dealer settles all bets and congratulates the winners. After this, the next round of Lightning Roulette begins!

Lightning Roulette Strategies
While it’s true that Lightning Roulette is mostly a game of luck, there are strategies you can use to increase your chances of winning. The biggest payouts in the game are only struck on straight numbers, so your best shot at winning big is to place a bet on one or more numbers. One strategy we like is to place half your stake on a red/black, odd/even, high/low bet and the other half on a single number.
That way, roughly half the time you won’t lose any money but you’ll still stand the chance to win big on a number. Also, watch this video of us testing another Lightning Roulette strategy which involves betting on thirds. Please be advised that no gambling strategy guarantees winning, and you always run the risk of losing some or all of your money. So we recommend you gamble responsibly and never bet more than you can afford to lose.
