INTRODUCTION TO PLAYBET
PlayBet is a Johannesburg-based bookmaker which was founded in 2011. Their online betting platform has a comprehensive range of sports and markets available, including all the usual suspects such as soccer, cricket, rugby, boxing and tennis, as well as American sports like NFL, basketball and baseball. Punters familiar with the BetXchange interface will find this site user-friendly as the PlayBet online platform is also powered by Turfsport which has a very similar look and feel.
PLAYBET SITE LAYOUT & USER EXPERIENCE
With its red and black colour scheme, the PlayBet site is aesthetically pleasing, managing to attract your attention without hurting your eyes. Both the vertical and horizontal navigation bars simplify the user experience, allowing punters easy access to the various sports as well as Lotto and lucky numbers available.
PlayBet offers live up-to-date results on all sports, while also providing a news feed and upcoming events section. Upcoming matches are displayed on the right-hand vertical navigation bar which allows punters to easily locate events which are starting soon to get their bets on as fast as possible. The results page is a useful feature which allows users to see which of their bets won and lost. Punters are also able to download a detailed soccer fixtures list with upcoming matches and betting odds from most of the world’s leagues.
PlayBet has a scrolling news feed at the top of the home page which provides all the latest winning lottery and lucky numbers. Also displayed is the Play Bet customer service number should punters have any account or product-related queries. Contact details also appear prominently at the top and bottom of the home page which we found to be a big plus when compared to other bookies.
Unfortunately, we find taking multiples/accumulators a bit confusing with PlayBet because of the system Turfsport uses, whereby you have to decide whether you want to take a bet with multiple legs before you put anything into your betslip and use a different button (MPL or SMPL). However, we were pleased to see step-by-step instructions on the home page explaining the process of placing a bet, which we have never seen before on any other online sports betting site. There is also readily available information on betting rules, banking methods, etc. which are often tricky to find on many other online sports betting sites.
PlayBet offers a decent selection of promotions (rugby, cricket, golf, horseracing and more) but do not offer a deposit or FICA bonus as of yet. They do however offer a high stake limit of up to R20 000 on your first bet which is significantly more than many other bookies are willing to take from brand-new punters.
Mobile: PlayBet has an easy-to-use mobisite which is very similar to the BetXchange one. A criticism we have of the mobisite is that placing system bets (Trixies, Patents, Yankees, etc.) is not possible.
App: No mobile app available as of yet.
Playbet have some of the fastest withdrawals we’ve ever seen in South Africa. They process and release funds which have been withdrawn on the same day you withdraw. Which is fantastic as the money usually is in your bank account on the same day. This is really unexpected and we can’t praise them enough on their efficient withdrawals!
We really like using PlayBet and have had a positive experienced with them so far. They have a solid offering backed up by the Turfsports brand, which is tried and trusted in the South African online sports betting industry. We also really like the fact that their withdrawals are so quick, if not the fastest withdrawals in South Africa.
