Tips For Saving Data While Betting (When You Can’t Go Data Free)
Until data-free betting is available across all betting sites, which hopefully it will be soon, we highly recommend following these tips for reducing your data consumption and saving you money.
Connect To WiFi Wherever Possible
You can check if your phone is using WiFi by looking at the top of your screen for the symbol with three curved lines. If you can’t see it, check to see which WiFi networks are available nearby. Many shopping malls, coffee shops, etc. have free WiFi you can connect to for free and save data. If you don’t know the required login details, try asking an employee for help. If you come right, next time you’re there, your phone will automatically connect to the same network.
Get a Monthly Data Plan Or Bundle
If you can afford it, it’s better to get a monthly data plan than top up as you go. The data you get on a monthly contract is much cheaper per GB than buying little bits at a time. If a monthly data plan is not within your budget, try to buy a bundle with as much data as possible at a time. You will always get a much better deal when you purchase more at once, which will help your data last longer.
Set Data Usage Alerts
Set alerts on your phone so you know when you’re about to run out of data and need to start conserving. To turn on data alerts for Android phones, go to Settings > Network & Internet > Data Usage > Mobile Data Usage. Then toggle Set Data Warning to on.
For Samsung Galaxy users, go to Connections > Data Usage > Billing Cycle and Data Warning. Here you can choose to Set a Data Warning and/or Limit Mobile Data Usage when you reach a certain amount of data used.
iPhones don’t have a built-in alert system like on Android, but you can always keep track of your data usage under Settings > Cellular. iPhone users can get around this problem by downloading their mobile service provider’s app and setting up alerts there.
Turn Off Background Data For Apps
Some apps use more data than others, and these should be restricted so you aren’t using more data than you need to. To save costs, see which apps are the most data-heavy and then decide which ones you can restrict, turn off or live without.
Android:
- Go to Settings
- Tap Connections
- Tap Data Usage
- Tap Mobile Data Usage
- Your Android apps are sorted by their data usage from highest to lowest. To cut out background data usage, tap any app and then toggle Allow Background Data Usage to off.
- Go back and repeat the process until you’ve turned off background data for all the apps you don’t use often.
iOS:
- Go to Settings
- Tap General
- Tap Background App Refresh
- Toggle Background App Refresh to off. If you don’t want to restrict all apps, leave the switch on (green) and disable specific apps using their individual switches.
