Playa Bets Review

Playa Bets

Playa Bets offers some of the best odds on pre-match and in-play tennis as well as markets which include Match Winner, Game and Set Handicaps and Totals. A great addition to their offering is a Match Winner & Over/Under market, which isn’t offered any other South African bookie! This bet allows you to pick the Match Winner AND Game Total for a much bigger return.

Sunbet

Sunbet has the standard pre-match offering on tennis without any Game or Set Handicaps. Their odds are always very competitive though so be sure to check them out. Their in-play tennis betting markets are as comprehensive as we’ve seen anywhere. So we recommend you bet tennis online with Sunbet!

World Sports Betting

WSB are often first out with their odds on pre-match tennis and have all the bells and whistles in terms of their markets. One gripe we have is that their margins are often a bit high (15%) on Handicaps and Totals, where some other bookies are 10% or less. WSB unfortunately do not offer Correct Set Score markets in-play, but that’s no biggie! WSB are one of our favourites to Bet on Tennis online with and you can get a cool R100 bonus by using voucher code BSB001 when registering!

Sportingbet

Sportingbet is the most comprehensive platform for tennis betting of all the South African bookies. Aside from the full range of pre-match markets, they offer Set 1 Game Handicaps and Games Totals for each player. More exotic markets on offer include ‘Player A/B to lose the 1st Set but win the match’ and whether there will be a tiebreak in each set.

Sportingbet’s in-play offering is also silky-smooth and very responsive. They have Acca Insurance promotions for tennis, where if you lose one leg of a multiple you’re refunded up to a certain amount. Their odds, especially in-play, are not always the best however and you can often find better value elsewhere. Sportingbet are hands down the best site to bet on tennis online in South Africa.

Tennis Betting Markets

When you bet on tennis online there are several types of bets you may want to get involved in. We’ll be detailing these below.

Match winner: Choose which player you think will win the match (Best of 2, 3, 4 or 5 sets depending on whether men’s/ladies or a Grand Slam tournament).

Handicap Markets
Game Handicaps: Game handicaps ‘level the playing field’ by giving either player an imaginary advantage or disadvantage based on whoever the favourite is to win the match. Player A, as the favourite might be given a –3.5 Game Handicap at odds of 17/20. Player B, as the underdog, would then be given a +3.5 Game Handicap at similar odds.
Once the match is over, regardless of who wins, whichever player has the most games after the Game Handicap has been either subtracted or added from the Game Total will determine the result of your bet.

Set Handicaps: Set Handicaps work similarly, except they only take sets into account. Player A, as the favourite might be given a –1.5 Set Handicap at odds of 5/10 if they are much stronger than Player B. This means that Player A needs to win the match by at least two sets for your bet to win. If you bet on Player B +1.5 sets, if they win the match or lose by only a single set then your bet is a winner.

Totals
Game Totals: Totals in tennis work in much the same way as other sports like total goals in football. You are betting on the amount of games or sets there will be in the match by choosing whether it will be Over/Under the given number. If the total is 36.5 games and you bet on the over, then by the end of the match there must have been 37 games or more played for your bet to win.

Set Totals: In men’s tennis, set total betting involves guessing whether the match will have 2, 3, 4 or 5 sets (depending on whether it’s a Grand Slam or not). In Women’s tennis, matches are always determined by the best of 3 sets and so you’ll need to decide whether the match will have 2 or 3 sets.
Correct Score
Match Score: In this market, you get to pick the Match Winner as well as the correct score in sets between the two players. Because there are more than two possible outcomes, you can get better odds on this market than you would simply picking the match winner. For example, you might bet on a Correct Match Score of Rafa Nadal to beat Roger Federer 3-1 in sets.

Single Set Score: This involves guessing the score in games of one particular set, e.g. 6-4 Nadal in Set 1. This type of bet is usually only offered by bookies for the Set 1 pre-match, but once the match is in-play then future set markets also become available.

Accumulators
Like any other sport, you can add a bunch of matches together into an accumulator/multiple for a potentially bigger return, e.g. Nadal to win, Anderson to win and Wawrinka to win 3-1 in a treble.

We hope this Bet tennis online article helped you and you are now equipped and confident to bet on tennis online in South Africa!
