WSB Met 2023 Betting Tips

Neil Morrice has some great insights and tips for the 2023 Met:

A year never goes by without collateral formlines snaking together to give arguments over who is best equipped to take out the biggest single race in the Western Cape a powerful adrenalin injection.

It’s not always the case that the ‘old brigade’ are taken on by a younger generation with realistic claims to glory.

But this year’s Met sees the 2022 protagonists KOMMETDIEDING and JET DARK locking horns and opposed by a powerful three-year-old contingent headed by Hollywood Syndicate’s own MAKE IT SNAPPY and COUSIN CASEY.

The former, a daughter of Dynasty whose Paddock Stakes victory makes her a clear 7-2 favourite with the sponsors, was the toast of Brett Crawford’s Burns Night supper on Wednesday along with Kommetdieding. The pair give the trainer an enviable twin spearhead with which to attack Saturday’s 2000-metre feature.

MAKE IT SNAPPY will propel into new territory trip-wise, but Hollywood’s syndicate manager Anthony Delpech has no worries that on pedigree she will stay. From a man who has ridden more winners worldwide than any other South African jockey, that has to be music to the ears of the owners.

JET DARK was a staying on second to Kommetdieding in the 2022 Met but turned the tables when finishing second to shock scorer AL MUTHANA in the L’Ormarins King’s Plate earlier this month.

That result is looked at by many as a fluke, but a key ingredient was in fact the jockeyship of Bernard Fayd’Herbe to chart a course on the stands’ rail. His ambitious ploy to give away distance while obtaining the better ground that proved crucial to the success was reminiscent of Anton Marcus when he adopted similar tactics aboard Hill Fifty Four in the 2014 Met.

Very little separates Kommetdieding and Jet Dark over whom you could throw a blanket.

Mike De Kock’s SPARKLING WATER has been beaten in the Victory Moon and the Betway Summer Cup since her triumph in the Hollywoodbets Durban July last year. But she was staying on behind Make It Snappy to claim a minor cheque in the Paddock Stakes, and will have an extra 200 metres to travel at the weekend.

Surely over-priced at 33-1 is DO IT AGAIN. The 2018 and 2019 July hero lost ground at the start in last year’s Met but stayed on strongly on the stands side to be beaten only two lengths into fifth. Given the yardage he surrendered leaving the gate, the veteran could easily have troubled the principals had things turned out differently.

And he’s been lightly campaigned by Justin Snaith who has had only one day in mind for the eight-year-old.

Plenty will run their pens through his name, but granted a strong pace to aim at DO IT AGAIN can prove a real threat to main pick MAKE IT SNAPPY under ace tactician Fayd’Herbe.

WSB Cape Town Met Horse Racing Tips

Horseracing is a challenging activity that requires a combination of mental skills and knowledge. Whether you are a casual bettor or a professional, there are a few general principles that can help you improve your chances of success.

One important factor is to approach the sport with a positive mindset. It is important to accept and embrace your love for horseracing and gambling, and to request respect for your hobby from friends and family. Another important factor is to study race form when you are well-rested and focused. This will help you make better betting decisions.

It is also important to eliminate personal bias and consider the merits of every runner in a race. A good form guide can be very helpful in this regard, and it is important to familiarize yourself with the information it contains. Watching race replays can also help you learn from your mistakes and improve your betting skills.

It is also a good idea to follow “strike” jockeys and trainers, who have a track record of success. Finally, don’t be afraid to place bets, as they can offer multiple chances to win and potentially high returns on your investment.
