Sports Betting Terms and what they mean

Double – A ‘double’ is 1 bet involving 2 selections in different events. Both must be successful to win. I.E Manchester United to bet Everton and Arsenal to bet Chelsea in the same bet.

Treble – A ‘treble’ is 1 bet involving 3 selections in different events. All three must be successful to get a return. The same as above but throw in an extra team.

Trixie – A ‘trixie’ is 4 bets involving 3 selections in different events. The bet includes 3 doubles and 1 treble. A minimum of 2 of your selections must be successful to get any sort of return.

Patent – A ‘patent’ is 7 bets involving 3 selections in different events. The bet includes 3 singles, 3 doubles and 1 treble. Just one successful selection guarantees a return, but not a big one.

Yankee – A ‘yankee’ is 11 bets involving 4 selections in different events. The bet includes 6 doubles, 4 trebles, and a fourfold accumulator. A minimum of 2 of your selections must be successful to get a return. Yankee bets are very popular with horse racing punters so remember this sports betting term.

Lucky 15 – A ‘lucky 15’ is 15 bets involving 4 selections in different events. The bet includes 4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles, and 1 fourfold. Bonuses are generally paid for just one winner or for four winners. You need to be pretty lucky to land one of these.

Heinz – A ‘heinz’ is 57 bets involving 6 selections in different events. The bet includes 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 fourfolds, 6 fivefolds and an accumulator. A minimum of 2 of your selections must be successful to get a return. If you hit one of these you’ll be a wealthy punter!

Super Heinz – A ‘super heinz’ is 120 bets involving 7 selections in different events. The bet includes 21 doubles, 35 trebles, 35 fourfolds, 21 fivefolds, 7 sixfolds and an accumulator. A minimum of 2 of your selections must be successful to get a return. This basically a ‘Heinz’ on steroids and red bull.

Goliath – A ‘goliath’ is 247 bets involving 8 selections in different events. The bet includes 28 doubles, 56 trebles, 70 fourfolds, 56 fivefolds, 28 sixfolds, 8 sevenfolds and an accumulator. A minimum of 2 of your selections must be successful to get a return. Land one of these and we’d love to hear about it!

Bet on which team will have the most bookings (yellow cards and red cards) in the match. Yellow card counts as 1, red card counts as 2.  Here are the options commonly available:

Betting Options:
Home
Away
Draw

Rules:
Bookings only issued during the match will apply for this market.
Yellow card counts as 1, red card counts as 2. Second yellows are ignored for settlement purposes (e.g. maximum card count per player is 3).
Settlement will be made with reference to all available evidence to cards shown during the scheduled 90 minutes play. Any card shown after the full-time whistle has been blown will be disregarded.
Cards shown to non-players (e.g. managers or substitutes who play no subsequent part in the game) do not count towards the total.
In the event of a match being abandoned before 90 minutes have been played then all bets will be void.

Example
Ronaldo is given a first yellow card in the game. He then makes another foul and is given a second yellow card, which in turn becomes a red card. This mean Ronaldo has in essence received 3 cards, and 3 cards counted towards to the total number of cards.
If a player gets a straight red card (no first yellow), then only 2 cards will count towards the total.

Example
Arsenal v Chelsea
Arsenal received 3 yellow cards for 3 different players. Chelsea received 2 yellow cards for one player, and in turn a red card.  Therefore this counts as 3 cards. Therefore the result here is a DRAW.
Example:
Arsenal received 1 straight red card, and Chelsea received 3 yellow cards.  As a straight red card only counts as 2, then Chelsea has the most bookings here.

Betting Terms Explained – First Team Booked

Bet on whether the first team booked in the match will be the home team or the away team. There is also the option of no team being booked.

Betting Options:
Home
Away
None

Rules:
Bookings only issued during the match will apply for this market.
In the event of a match being abandoned before 90 minutes have been played then all bets will be void unless settlement of bets is already determined. Therefore if a team has been carded, then this market will be resulted.

Example
Arsenal v Chelsea
An Arsenal player is given a yellow card in the 12th minute. ARSENAL is the winner in this market.

Example
No cards are given in the entire match. Therefore NONE is the winner.

Total Corners

Bet on the total number of corners taken during the match. This is an over/under totals market. Therefore there will be a 0.5 on each option. Corners taken by both teams count towards this market. Only corners taken during the 90 minutes of play until the final whistle count to this market (not extra time played after the final whistle).

Betting Options:
Over 8.5 / 9.5 / 10.5 / 11.5 / 12.5 etc.
Under 8.5 / 9.5 / 10.5 / 11.5 / 12.5 etc.

Example
Arsenal v Chelsea
Arsenal 6 corners / Chelsea 5 corners – OVER 10.5 / UNDER 11.5
Arsenal 2 corners / Chelsea 7 corners – OVER 8.5 / UNDER 9.5
Etc.

Away to Win Both Halves / Home to Win Both Halves

Bet on whether the Away team will win both halves in the match. This is based on goals scored in each half. The AWAY team must score more goals than the HOME side in both halves. If they draw any half, or score the same amount of goals in a half, then it will be NO. (The same rules apply to Home To Win Both Halves).

Betting Options:
Yes
No

Example for AWAY to Win Both Halves:
Arsenal (HOME) v Chelsea (AWAY)
If Chelsea leads the game 0-1 at halftime, and 0-2 at fulltime, then the winning market is YES.
If Chelsea leads the game 0-1 at halftime, and 1-3 at fulltime, then the winning market is YES.
If Chelsea leads the game 0-1 at halftime, and 1-2 at fulltime, then the winning market is NO.
If Chelsea leads the game 0-1 at halftime, and 0-1 at fulltime, then the winning market is NO.
If the score is 0-0 or 1-1 etc at halftime, then the winning market is automatically NO.
If Arsenal leads the game 1-0 at halftime, then the winning market is automatically NO.

Betting Terms Explained – Winning Margins

Bet on the winning margin of the one side over the other. Determine the exact amount of goals they will win by. Only goals scored during the full 90 minutes of play (not extra time or penalty shootout after the final whistle) will count toward this market.

Betting Options:
Home by 1 goal
Home by 2 goals
Home by 3 goals or more
X (draw)
Away by 1 goal
Away by 2 goals
Away by 3 goals or more

Example
Arsenal v Chelsea

Arsenal 1-0 Chelsea —> ARSENAL BY 1 GOAL
Arsenal 2-0 Chelsea —> ARSENAL BY 2 GOALS
Arsenal 4-0 Chelsea —> ARSENAL BY 3 GOALS or MORE
Arsenal 1-1 Chelsea —> X (Draw)
Arsenal 1-2 Chelsea —> CHELSEA BY 1 GOAL
Arsenal 1-3 Chelsea —> CHELSEA BY 2 GOALS

Overtime

Bet on whether the match will go to extra time or penalty shootout. This can occur during cup games where qualification is needed, or finals where a winner needs to be decided. Notice goal difference can also affect this market (therefore a match does not necessarily need to end in a draw to go to overtime).

Betting Options:
Yes
No

Example
Arsenal v Chelsea – FA CUP FINAL
At the end of 90 Minutes final whistle in the FA Cup final, the scores remain at 1-1. Therefore two 15 minute halves of extra time is required to decide a winner. Therefore the winner for this market will be YES.
If the score was 1-0 to Arsenal for example at the end of 90 minutes, and no extra time is played, then the answer is NO.
Example:
Arsenal v Chelsea – CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUARTER FINAL
After the home leg for Chelsea, the score was 1-0 to Chelsea. At the end of this Away leg, the score is 1-0 to Arsenal.  Therefore the teams are equal on goal difference at 1-1.  Therefore extra time (or overtime) is required to decide a winner. Therefore the answer here will be YES.

To Qualify
Bet on which team will qualify for the next round of a cup competition. Remember that on occasion a team need only draw to qualify.

Betting Options:
Home
Away

Example
England v Brazil (World Cup Final)
England and Brazil are deadlocked 1-1 in the semi-final. The game goes to extra time, and remains 1-1. The game then goes to penalties and Brazil win 5-4 on penalties. Brazil qualifies for the final and are therefore the winner of this market.
Arsenal v Chelsea (Champions League Quarter-Final)
Chelsea beat Arsenal at home 2-0. Arsenal beat Chelsea 1-0 at home. Therefore the goal difference is 1-2 in Chelsea’s favor. Therefore Chelsea qualify for the next round.

Penalty Shoot Out

Bet on whether the game will go to a penalty shootout. A penalty shootout will occur if a cup competition game is deadlocked (or the goal difference is deadlocked) after extra time, or in some cases immediately after full time (normally exhibition matches or preseason competitions).

Betting Options:
Yes
No

Example
Arsenal v Chelsea
The game is deadlocked at 1-1 after full time (90 Minutes). Two halves of extra time are played, but the scores remain level.  A penalty shootout is performed to decide a winner.  Therefore the market winner here is YES.
Example
The game is deadlocked at 1-1 after full time (90 Minutes). Extra time is played and Arsenal score a goal. The game ends 2-1 in Arsenal’s favor and no penalty shootout is required.  Therefore the market winner here is NO.

1st Half Total Number of Bookings

Bet on the total number of bookings (yellow cards and red cards) in the first half of the match. Yellow card counts as 1, red card counts as 2.  Here are the options commonly available:

Betting Options:
Over 0.5 / 1.5 / 2.5 / 3.5 / 4.5
Under 0.5 / 1.5 / 2.5 / 3.5 / 4.5

Rules:
Bookings only issued during the first half will apply for this market.
Yellow card counts as 1, red card counts as 2. Second yellows are ignored for settlement purposes (e.g. maximum card count per player is 3).
Settlement will be made with reference to all available evidence to cards shown during the scheduled 45 minutes play. Any card shown after the half time whistle has been blown will be disregarded.
Cards shown to non-players (e.g. managers or substitutes who play no subsequent part in the game) do not count towards the total.
In the event of a match being abandoned before 45 minutes have been played then all bets will be void unless settlement of bets is already determined.

Example
If Ronaldo is given a yellow card in the first half. Then he makes another foul and is given a second yellow, which in turn becomes a red card, this mean the player has in essence received 3 cards. Therefore the OVER 2.5 BOOKINGS will be the winner.
If a player gets a straight red card (no first yellow), and this is the only booking in the first half, then UNDER 2.5 BOOKINGS or OVER 1.5 BOOKINGS will be the winner. This is because a red card counts as 2.

(principle also applies to HOME to Score in Both Halves)

Bet on whether the AWAY side will score in both halves of the match.

Betting Options:
Yes

No

Example
Arsenal v Chelsea
If Chelsea score in the first half, and then also score in the second half, then YES is the winning market.
If Chelsea only score in the first half, and not in the second half, then NO is the winning market,
If Chelsea don’t score in either of the halves, then NO is the winning market,

Away to Win Either Half

(principle also applies to HOME to Win Either Half)

Bet on whether the AWAY side will win a half.  This means they don’t necessarily need to win the match, they just need to score more goals than the home side in one of the halves.

Betting Options:
Yes

No

Example
Arsenal (HOME) v Chelsea (AWAY)
If at the end of the first half the score is 0-1 to Chelsea. Regardless of what happens in the game, the winning market is YES.
If at the end of the first half the score is 0-0, then 0-1 to Chelsea in the second half, then the winning market is YES.
If at the end of the first half the score is 1-0 to Arsenal, then 1-1 at full time, then YES is the winning half (as only Chelsea scored in the 2nd half).
If at the end of the first half the score is 2-0 to Arsenal, then at full time it is 2-1, then YES is the winner (as Chelsea wins 1-0 in the second half).
If at the end of the first half the score is 1-0 to Arsenal, then 1-2 to Chelsea, then YES is the winning market.
If at the end of the first half the score is 1-0 to Arsenal, then 2-1 at full time, then NO is the winning market. Because theoretically the score for the second half is 1-1.
If at the end of the first half the score is 1-1, then 2-2 at full time, then NO is the winning market.
If at the end of the first half the score is 0-0, then 0-0 at full time, then NO is the winning market.

Penalty Shootout and Extra Time (after the final whistle) do not apply to this market.

Total Bookings

Bet on the total number of bookings (yellow cards and red cards) in the whole match (after 90 minutes play until the final whistle). Yellow card counts as 1, red card counts as 2.  Here are the options commonly available:

Betting Options:
Over 3.5 / 4,5 / 5.5 / 6.5 / 7.5 Bookings
Under 3.5 / 4,5 / 5.5 / 6.5 / 7.5 Bookings

Example
If you bet on under 4.5 cards, and only 4 cards are issued during the first half – then your bet is winning.

If you bet on over 3.5 cards, and only 3 cards are issued during the first half – then your bet is losing.

Rules:
Yellow card counts as 1, red card counts as 2. Second yellows are ignored for settlement purposes (e.g. maximum card count per player is 3).
Settlement will be made with reference to all available evidence to cards shown during the scheduled 90 minutes play. Any card shown after the full-time whistle has been blown will be disregarded.
Cards shown to non-players (e.g. managers or substitutes who play no subsequent part in the game) do not count towards the total.
In the event of a match being abandoned before 90 minutes have been played then all bets will be void unless settlement of bets is already determined.

  1. Draw or any clean sheet and I said No, score is 1-1 please explain

  2. What does the market “additional totals” mean? How it’s it different from the market “totals” ? Does it mean the total goals scored or the goals scored in the additional time?
