After an entertaining group stage we’re into the knockout stages of Euro 2020, and there’s a feast of football for you to enjoy over the coming days as we get to the business end of the competition. These eight matches will determine which nations progress to the quarter-finals of Euro 2020!
How the round of 16 works
In the knockout phase, if a match is level at the end of 90 minutes of normal playing time, extra time is played (two periods of 15 minutes each). If the game is still tied after extra time, then the match is decided by a penalty shoot-out to determine the winners. We’re mentioning this because most bets taken in the knockout phase are for 90 minutes, unless otherwise specified. As always, odds mentioned are subject to change.

Wales vs Denmark (Sat 26th June, 6pm)

Denmark romped to a 4-1 victory over Russia in their final Group B match. Since their captain, Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch and the Danes went on to lose against Finland, they’ve regrouped and look an improved side. But it’s still hard to ignore they’re missing their best player. This should be a tight match and a draw in 90 minutes looks to be on the cards.

Italy vs Austria (Sat 26th June, 9pm)

In Euro 2020, Italy has picked up all 9 points available and scored seven goals without conceding. Austria is making their first-ever appearance in the knockout stages of a European Championship and the occasion might well be too overwhelming. Italy should win this one quite comfortably, bagging a few goals in the process.

Netherlands vs Czech Republic (Sun 27th June, 6pm)

- Czech Republic – 5.50
The Netherlands has been quietly going about their business in a fairly easy group but shouldn’t be underestimated. In the Czech Republic, the Dutch come up against a side who’ve held their own against both Croatia and England. This looks to us about as far as the Czechs will get though. The Dutch should win a close fought encounter in the 90.

Belgium vs Portugal (Sun 27th June, 9pm)

Having scored two own goals in the 4-2 loss against Germany and benefiting from a dodgy penalty decision against France, Portugal has certainly been in the thick of it at Euro 2020. Striker Ronaldo still hasn’t lost his shine, but Belgium is stronger in just about every other position on the field. Belgium should win this won fairly comfortably, but don’t be surprised if Ronaldo bags another goal.

Croatia vs Spain (Mon 28th June, 6pm)

Spain might’ve put five goals past Slovakia to qualify for the Euro 2020 Round of 16 in style, but there’s still a lot to be desired about their performance so far. After a slow start, Croatia was much improved against a dogged Scotland side and this match looks very tough to call. We fancy Croatia to put up a fight and get a result (win or draw) in the 90.

France vs Switzerland (Mon 28th June, 9pm)

France has been a little disappointing so far as the Euro 2020 favourites but not for lack of chances, especially in the final third. Griezmann has been their standout player, contributing to nearly every French goal so far, even if the weapons around him haven’t been firing on all cylinders. He’ll hopefully grab a much deserved Euro 2020 goal in the match against the Swiss.

England vs Germany (Tues 29th June, 6pm)

England is yet to hit their stride in Euro 2020 and it won’t surprise many of us if they never do. Of the 270 minutes of football they’ve played so far, very little has been inspiring to watch. Germany has been quite potent going forward but an absolute mess at the back. All of England’s games so far have gone Under 2.5 but this one has goals written all over it. England should have no trouble finding goals and the Germans should be able to bag a few of their own.

Sweden vs Ukraine (Tues 29th June, 9pm)

Sweden started their Euro 2020 campaign with a well-earned draw against Spain and have since picked up all 6 points available to them. Their last match against Poland proved they can trade goals with opponents and win high-scoring games. They might not look the same without King Zlatan, but Sweden can take advantage of being drawn against weaker Ukraine and progress to the quarter-finals. This isn’t going to be pretty, but Sweden should come out on top against a rather pedestrian Ukraine.
