Sunbet Review – Old Sunbet site

Sunbet are backed by the wealthy Sun International group and were formally known as Voltbet until the takeover. They have a unique site in the sense that it is very organic and has a good flow to it but can be difficult to navigate at times. Especially with the way it’s landing page is setup. They currently offer a 100% match up to R500

Popular events can be found on banners on the right side of the page, these are updated on a daily basis. The landing page is somewhat unconventional in comparison to other sites with selected live inplay markets taking up most of the real estate, with the bulk of the markets situated on the left-handside of the page.

Once you are in the markets you’ll find a fairly standard experience but one that flows very nicely. We liked the large icons on their odds menu although they do need to add a few more to their database as there were some repeats. Their odds themselves are pretty competitive which makes them a go to bookie for those wanting value on rugby or soccer. They are also not afraid to take big bets and we recall them taking a R250,000 bet on an Egyptian football match (The bet won).

On a more personal note we’ve noticed that Sunbet are a great bookmaker for those looking to bet big. We mentioned the fact that they take big bets at Sunbet but we can confidently say they do. They’ve given us bets 5x larger than other big local bookies would not accept so if you bet big then look no further than Sunbet.

Another point in their favour is their offering of more exotic sports. Most bookies have give up on EFC betting and you often struggle to find markets, not at Sunbet though. They have a fairly good coverage of EFC / UFC markets. Sunbet surprisingly also have a solid Esports offering, something we did not expect to find. They also have a very interesting Stats section, something statistical punters will find very interesting.

Sunbet offer the usual R500 first deposit match, it used to be a lot more and it’s a shame they’ve dropped it. Another perk of using Sunbet is that you earn MVG points on all your bets, so if you are a regular gambler at one of their casinos they might be for you. We’ve had several queries on how their MVG points actually work so we thought we give a brief explanation :

For every R500 wagered on a single bet with Sunbet you’ll receive 1 MVG point, the same R500 wagered on a double will return 2 points, with 3 points being awarded for a treble etc.

These Sun MVG points are then split equally between Casino and Leisure Points, which are then redeemable across Sun International properties.

Casino Points can be played back on Slots and Tables and Leisure Points can be used to pay for luxurious accommodation, meals, beverages, golf and entertainment.

Sunbet’s customer service is pretty average at the moment. If you’re in a rush to get a response you’d be wise to phone their call centre instead of emailing them. Not what you as a customer want but what is unfortunately the standard in South Africa.

Sunbet’s deposit options are as one would expect but we’d like to see them add SID or Quick EFT payment methods to their offering as these are very popular.

Current Promotions :

Place a pre-game bet on the minus handicap and if you lose by half a point we will refund your stake up to R500.

Place an outright bet on the Lions to lift the Super Rugby Cup and double your winnings up to an amount of R2000 if they win.

Sports Offered :

Rugby, golf, soccer, cricket, tennis, NFL football, boxing, darts, motor sports, ice hockey, snooker, table tennis, water polo, baseball, basketball, Australian rules, rugby sevens, rugby league, badminton, beach soccer, beach volleyball, cycling, field hockey, futsal, handball, pesapallo, volleyball and lucky numbers.

Overall Experience :

Sunbet possess all the elements that will keep you interested. With a solid site that oozes potential and a decent mobile site they could evolve into a top bookie. Earning MVG Points on all bets is a nice touch but you’ll first need to register for an MVG account online. Their speciality markets are great and with more promotions in the pipeline (or so we have heard), Sunbet are worth considering, especially if you’re looking for a well-rounded bookmaker that have the backing of a renowned casino and hospitality group. We’d just like to see them bump that sign on bonus up a notch to a level that matches the rest of their site.
