How the mighty have fallen. Argentina have been terrible this World Cup, there’s not much more you can say to describe their performance. They have looked clueless going forward and their defence has been in shambles. In order for them to qualify they need Croatia to beat or draw with Iceland and they need to beat Nigeria. Nigeria have been a surprise package in this group and they will not be easy to get past. Argentina will have to sort out their defensive issues as well as find their range upfront if they are to have any chance of beating the African side.
It’s not all about Argentina as Nigeria have just as good a chance of qualifying as their opponents do. If they pick up a win they’ll qualify regardless of what happens between Croatia and Iceland. Top spot is likely out of the question unless they manage to beat Argentina by 5 goals or more but they’ll be more than happy with just qualifying. They haven’t been prolific in front of goal either with their only 2 goals of the tournament coming against Iceland.

The winner of this match will certainly join Croatia in the next round, this could make for a very cagey affair as but we think it’s going to be a case of all out attack for both sides. Argentina have shown flashes of brilliance going forward but they’re all too rare. They’ve also struggled against strong European opposition that have an organised midfield and defence. What they do have going for them is that Nigeria will not sit deep and will play an expansive game, allowing Argentina the chance to strike back on the counter attack. It might seem silly to flog a dead horse but we think there will be goals in this one with Argentina pulling finger and edging a close game. Both sides have seen 2 goals or more in their first 2 matches so with that in mind we’re going to be backing Argentina to win and over 1.5 goals at 7/10.
