There is no one more disappointed right now than the Germans. They suffered a huge upset defeat against a Mexican side that they were expected to roll over. The German midfield has to shoulder much of the blame as they let far too many through balls by and failed to feed their forwards with good goal scoring chances. Very unlike what is usually a reliable German side. They have a great chance at bouncing back against Sweden, one of the weaker European sides in the competition. Germany will have to sort their defensive issues out otherwise they could be in for another nail biter against Sweden.
Sweden find themselves joint top of the Group after a close 1-0 win over minnows, South Korea. The Swedes put in a good display, especially defensively where they limited South Korea to only 5 shots, none of which were on target. They’ll need to draw on that display against a German side that will be gunning for them. It’s hard to see Sweden scoring too many as they did struggle going forward against the Koreans. Yes, they created chances but only a handful of actual real chances that could have resulted in goals.

Germany absolutely have to win their match against Sweden. Fail to top the group and they will likely face (and be beaten by) Brazil in the round of 16. The Germans need to get a more structured midfield going and bring in someone to help the defence out. We think they’ll manage to sort most of these issues out when it comes to facing Sweden. A side that is not prolific on the counter attack, a area where Germany is very weak. It should be a more controlled game from Germany as they’re under pressure and we don’t see them running up the scoreboard too much. With that in mind we’re leaning with a German win and under 3.5 goals at 23/20.
