Portugal v Spain World Cup 2018 Betting Preview
Portugal have always been pretty decent in big tournaments, even with squads that might not be considered World Class. They’re a tenacious bunch who can grind out wins thanks to stars like Ronaldo. They’re up against it when they face Spain, especially considering the Portuguese have not been in great form heading into the World Cup. They’ve only won 2 of their last games, drawing 3 and losing 1. To be fair the games weren’t too competitive but they’ll be concerned about the 7 goals they conceded over this period. They be playing a defensive doctrine and hitting back at Spain on the counter attack and hoping Ronaldo and co can do the business upfront.
Spain have revitalised themselves after a disappointing period on the international stage. They’re not quite as strong as the side that lifted the trophy in 2010 but they still maintain their attacking approach which is very easy on the eye. They’re rightfully favourites coming into this match having demolished Argentina and Costa Rica recently. They might struggle to score against the stout Portuguese defence but they certainly have goals in them. The big question is if they can do two things, keep Ronaldo quiet and keep a clean sheet. Do both and they’ll certainly pick up a win.
Portugal v Spain World Cup 2018 Betting Tips
The Iberian derby is set to be a cracker and it’s very tough to pick a winner. On paper the 17/20 on Spain looks a bit short as they’ve been evenly matched in their last few matches. This game will likely be tight and with lots of counter attacking football. We don’t see too many goals being scored so under 2.5 at 6/10 does tempt but is once again a bit short for our liking. Instead we’re going to be relying on Portuguese tenacity to grind out at result, we don’t think they’ll win but a draw is certainly on the cards. We’re backing Portugal to win or draw at 19/20.
