England have shown they that they are dead serious about a deep run this World Cup, their 6-1 demolition of Panama was a sight to behold and sent a message out to the world that England are here and they are ready. While the win was impressive the biggest takeaway was the pace and intensity that England played at, something which has been missing in the last few years. It won’t be a walk in the park against Belgium though, as in fairness England have not been faced with any quality opposition up to this point. Another bonus for the English is the form of Harry Kane, he looked sublime against Panama and his hat trick will be a massive confidence boost going into the crucial match with Panama.

Belgium have been as impressive as England this World Cup, but once again it’s been against rather weak opposition. Lukaku has looked in fine form and they will be reliant on his presence against England. Belgium know this won’t be an easy match but they do arguably have the better side on paper and seem to be more structured at the back than England are. Belgium will need to shut down the English midfield if they are to get a positive result out of this match, the English wingers are looking deadly and could cause them problems if they are given space to run. On the flip slide the likes of Hazard will be looking to run at a somewhat shaky English defence and Belgium will be reliant on their key play maker to create chances for Lukaku and co.

Both sides will want to win this match but having said that they won’t be too disappointed if they lose. The winner is set to face 2nd place from Group H and the 2nd place will face the Group H winner, not exactly the toughest opposition. If they were up against a tougher group in the round of 16 then this game would have a lot more at stake than it currently does. The last few games for both Belgium and England have been goal fests but we think they’ll take a more cautious approach when facing each other.

As it stands England have the superior goal difference and will take a draw to seal top spot while only a win for Belgium will see them top the group. England’s last few games against quality opposition have been very low scoring and we expect this match to be much of the same, while we think that Belgium might win a close match we’re rather going to back a low scoring match.
