Uruguay v France World Cup Betting Preview

Uruguay have a quality side and it’s really shone this World Cup. They haven’t set the tournament alight with goals like some of the other sides but they’ve been very good at the back. Uruguay conceded their first goal of the tournament against Portugal in the previous round, a header off a corner which they really could have done little about. This Uruguayan side is built around a defensive doctrine and that is something that wins World Cups. Upfront they haven’t been shy in the goals department, scoring 7 in their last 4 matches. It’s not spectacular but they have won all the matches that they’ve played in. The South Americans will be confident they can keep the French out for 90 min, while relying on Cavani and Suarez to bag the winning goal upfront.

France started the tournament slowly but have been slowly gaining momentum as they’ve progressed. Their 4-3 win over Argentina was a sight to behold as they fought to get back in to the match, which they ultimately won. The problem with the French side is their defenders are sitting way too deep and their zonal marking has been poor. They could have prevented 2 of the 3 goals from Argentina had they been more organised at the back. Up until their match with Argentina the French hadn’t been too prolific in front of goal either, grabbing only 3 goals in the group stage. The likes of Giroud have not performed although they have been useful setting other players up. If Mbappe and Griezmann can have a good game them France will surely find themselves in the semi finals.

Uruguay v France World Cup Betting Tips

This match looks like a win for France on paper, however we think it’s going to be a lot more complex than that. Uruguay, as stated, have a world class defensive unit that the French will struggle to break down. Yes Mbappe and Griezmann will run at them but shut those two down and the Uruguayans will just need to grab a goal or two and they should be through. This won’t be a high scoring match like the France v Argentina one, we think this match will be decided by a single goal and could perhaps even go to extra time and penalties. While the French are more talented we’re going to go with an extremely organised Uruguayan unit to grind out a narrow win or a draw in 90 minutes. Back Uruguay to win or draw at 8/10 and a small bet on Uruguay to win 1-0 at 13/2
